Carter WCDs were used starting in 1941 on Buicks, then Cadillac engines in M5 Stuart and M26 Chafee tanks, in various applications through the 1950s and finally in AMC cars until 1968.

The model can be identified by the words 'Carter WCD' cast on the front of the float bowl.

The carburetor number on these was originally only a triangular tag attached to the top of the carb. Some earlier carbs also had a flange number on the face of the mounting flange that can be used to identify the carb.
