Carburetor Kits

Ethanol compatible

Carburetor kits consist of the normal wearing parts needed to restore like-new operation of the carburetor. These typically include gaskets, fuel inlet valve (needle/seat), accelerator pumps, check balls, clips, seals and instructions. Standard kits don't include floats, chokes or filters. These are available separately, or in master kits. Check the listings for the contents of each kit.

Made in USA.

Chokes

Choke Thermostats

Automatic choke carburetors use choke thermostats, which are usually bimetal coil springs that open and close depending on temperature. Over time the springs can fatigue and no longer have the range of motion they originally had. This results in a choke that doesn't open fully, or doesn't close when the engine is cold.

Chokes that don't close fully lead to hard starting, and when they don't open fully, engines run too rich, which gives poor fuel economy, rough running and black smoke.

Carburetor Doctor has a full line of US-made hot air and electric choke thermostats.

Choke Pull Offs

Vacuum Breaks

Choke pull offs (also known as vacuum breaks) are diaphragms that crack open the choke plates slightly as soon as the engine starts. Symptoms of a bad choke pull off include running rough at start up, or hard starting.

On some 4 barrel carburetors, like the Rochester Quadrajet and Carter Thermoquad, the choke pull off also controls the opening of the secondary air valve, where it acts as a damper, preventing the air valve from opening too fast. A bad choke pull off can result in a bog on hard acceleration in these models.

Our choke pull offs are almost all US-made. None are made in China. We don't sell any of the cheap copies of Quadrajet pull offs that have flooded the market recently.
