Stromberg EE-1 carburetor

Stromberg EE carburetors were used on many applications including Auburn, Buick, Cadillac, Chrysler, Ford, Graham, Hupmobile, LaSalle, Lincoln, Zephyr, Nash, Oldsmobile, Packard, Pierce Arrow and Studebaker.

The most famous of these today is the so-called Stromberg '97' which was used on Ford flathead V-8's either as original equipment or as a replacement carb from 1935-1949. The carburetor is correctly called an 'EE" carb; the name '97' refers to the venturi size of one version of this carb: 0.97 inch. A raised '97' is cast into the side of the float bowl, and the venturi size, 31/32" (0.97) is also cast into the body.

Other variants of the Ford EE carb are the '81' and the '48' . The '81', used on the 1937-1938 60 HP flathead, had a 0.81" venturi (marked 13/16), whereas '48' had the largest venturi at 1.03" (1-1/32"). The throttle bodies of the '81' model sometimes have 7/8 cast on them.

Ford Stromberg EE-1 Versions

Size Venturi CFM (approximate)
48 1-1/32 170
81 13/16 125
97 31/32 155

A number of other versions of the EE were produced, some with larger throttle bores and larger castings overall.
