Stromberg BX carburetor
Stromberg BXVES-3 Dodge 6-230, carb number 3-95G

The Stromberg BX was a single barrel downdraft carburetor that was used on American cars and trucks from 1932 to approximately 1957. Variants of this design were used on vehicles built outside the US and Canada up to about 1980. Holden and Australian Fords used the Stromberg BX extensively.

Model B carburetor models are designated this way:

  • X: crossed flange
  • O: 1/8" oversize throttle
  • U: 1/8" undersize throttle
  • V: vacuum controlled power system
  • D: dashpot
  • E: electrically controlled dashpot
  • S: kickdown switch

Size

  • 1: SAE size 1, 1-3/16" throttle bore
  • 2: SAE size 2, 1-7/16" throttle bore
  • 3: SAE size 3, 1-11/16" throttle bore

Auto Choke Type

  • 5: electric
  • 6: hot air
